How to protect your iPod Nano screen
After seeing an article on the horrors of the iPod Nano screen,
I was afraid to even carry my Nano in my pocket, nonetheless with my
cell phone in the same pocket. I came up with this as a solution
that works pretty well.
Here is a step by step guide to what I did:Clicking on any image gives you the original 5 megapixal image file (about 500K-800K).
*note that by reading anything below, you are absolving me of any
liability for what you might do. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE if you
damage your Nano. If you can't handle this, I can just redirect you here.
1. Here is the product I used.
I went to the local camera store
and they have these protectors for LCD screens on digital
cameras. That should do:

2. Clean the screen
Make sure you use either the wipes they provide or a towel that will
not scratch the surface or your Nano. These are the supplied
wipes that I used. I'm extra anal, so I dried it using my lens
cloth (for my cameras).

3. Size the area
You have to choose the size of the area that you want to cover with the
plastic protectors. I chose B (1.7"), which gives about 1mm of
edging outside of the screen. If you want to, you can apply the
plastic to the whole top half and cut aroudn the edges of the Nano, but
I haven't tried that. It seems to be fine for me since the
plastic protector edges are hard to see anyways.

4. Peel and Apply
Peel of the plastic from the back of the printed side.

Now center the plastic over the screen and start FROM THE CENTER OUT,
using the cheap squeegee thing they give you to work out the
bubbles. The cheap one they give you can actually scratch the
plastic if the edges aren't smooth, so be careful. I do this by
going center to left, center to right:

And then center to top, center to bottom, for good measure.

5. Relish in your creationThis is what it looks like with the plastic protector:

Notice that the lower left corner is messed up cause I used my
fingernail to lift it up to try and get a bubble out. Don't do
that. Just use the squeegee to get that stuff out.
6. Word of caution
I had to peel the plastic cover off to take photos for a round two
(since it had worked so well). That left a little bit of sticky
goo residue in one corner. This came off easily though with some
WD40. Again I am not responsible if the WD40 eats through your
Nano. You can see the adhesive at the top right of the screen:

Please email me if you have any questions, since I LOVE my nano (4 gig,
had to wait forever to get it in the stores) and I am more than happy
to offer my help to fellow nano owners.
